does not put forward the NEC computers range which has a very
high profile in other countries after its acquisition of Packard
Bell. |

AMD
News - Mustang
Mustang is the High End version of the Athlon Thunderbird Core. It
is suppose to come with 512 Kb cache at its launch (onboard). In comparison
Pentium III come with 256 Kb onboard cache and the P3 Xeon @ 1Ghz
equally. So it will have a definitive advantage at start. Earlier,
sources said that the cache will go up to 8 Mb but this has been reduced
to 2 Mb. Again 2 Mb cache is quite substantial. P3 Xeon reach 2 Mb
maximum. Itanium however will bring the total cache to 4 Mb ! Mustang
is suppose to come out in the Month of January. |
AMD News - Palomino
The mobile counterpart of the Athlon Thunderbird core. It will feature
the PowerNow feature and will boost all the features that made the
Athlon TB range so competitive - Onboard cache and a Highspeed bus.
Should be out at the same time as the Mustang. Let me remind you that
mobile Pentium 3 reach speeds of 800 Mhz already ! |
Sun
News
Nooo... Not OUR Sun.. But Sun Microsystems... They have had a hectic
week. They've acquired Cobalt Networks which is a small but quite
prolific entry-level server-appliance product manufacturer (read low
cost networks). Cobalt produced the gorgeous Cube and had had a fudge
with Nintendo which released the Qube (same name !!!) AFAIR.. The
sale is valued at Rs 52 Bln. This acquisition comes after that of
the Starfire Server technology from Cray, this forming part of the
Sun Strategy to offer a Wide spectrum of products. Secondly, they
launched the UltraSparc III CPU which debuts at 750 Mhz and which
has been named "Cheetah". |
Nvidia
Strikes again
It was rumoured since last month.. Now it has been confirmed. Not
content of being King in the Video Field with its TNT and Geforce
range, Nvidia plans to strike the Chipset market where some serious
competition awaits it : Intel, AMD, Via, ALI, SIS.. All won't accept
that a new comer grabs their market share... Will Nvidia emulate its
wins in the Video Market? Nvidia's chipset will apparently feature
Geforce engine (the logical suite to TNT core...) and will compete
with the Forthcoming VIA chipset and those from SIS (sis 540, 630..) |

Freenet
"Freenet is a peer-to-peer network designed to allow the distribution
of information over the Internet in an efficient manner, without fear
of censorship. Freenet is completely decentralized, meaning that there
is no person, computer, or organisation in control of Freenet or essential
to its operation. This means that Freenet cannot be attacked like
centralized peer-to-peer systems such as Napster. Freenet also employs
intelligent routing and caching meaning that it learns to route requests
more efficiently, automatically mirrors popular data, makes network
flooding almost impossible, and moves data to where it is in greatest
demand. All of this makes it much more efficient and scalable than
systems such as Gnutella. " 'Nough Said, go now to here |
