- Intel says that its pentium 3 1.133Mhz will return in 2 months that
is in November... Just in time for AMD to release its Athlon 1.2 Ghz
and for Intel to release its own Pentium 4.
- BTW, I went wrong th Duron Range. AMD has stopped manufacturing
them ;(. As from now, here is what we have
K6-2 Series - 500 Mhz, 550 Mhz
Duron Series - 650 Mhz, 700 Mhz, 750 Mhz
Thunderbird Series - 800 Mhz to 1100 Mhz in steps of 50 Mhz
Expect Durons to end up at 1Ghz somewhere next year
Thunderbird will reach 1.5 Ghz before being relegated to Duron Status.. |

Notes :
(1) Pentium 3+ has no support for DRD Ram ie no chipset available
like the i820. This also confirms that Pentium 3's will be confined
to entry and mid-ranged system. DRD memory will be limited to i850,
high end platform. This confirms the previous info that P3 will in
a short term inpinch on Celeron's territory.
(2) No itanium motherboard from ASUS apparently. Also no given launching
date altogether for the motherboards. I really don't know whether
Timna or Tulatin Mobo names are final - I guess they are not since
these names are only insiders' nicks for the products, not for the
consumer, which would therefore mean that the mobos will not be launched
at the same time
(3) Asustek has more than tripled its Athlon mobos offerings which
in a nutshell translates an exceptional period for AMD.
(4) Pentium 3+ won't be supported by present motherboards since they
will necessitate a 200 Mhz bus. I really fear that Intel will, with
the help of Tulatin, get an Athlon Killer AND at the same time kill
the Pentium 4 AND itanium Market. Just ponder on it...
(5) Nvidia doing chipsets.... Cool idea when you look at their video
technologies... Great Idea?? Should be, especially if they plan to
integrate Geforce technology into their chipset. Anyway, CPU chipset
will fetch them higher prices than video chipset since you have both
a high end chipset and potentially a high-end Video card.
(6) New Athlon chipsets will literally flood the market.. AMD 760,
successor to AMD 750 will come on, followed by Ali Magik which AFAIR
will feature integrated features, KM 133 will have the Savage video
core onboard. As for the KT100, I guess that it is a cousin of the
KT133 with added features like ATA100 raid? |

Notes
(1) What will Rambus say about that.. Serverworks offering DDR
chipset to Intel Pentium4, the chasse garde of Rambust. Where have
they got the approval? From Intel !!!! Who cannot actually sell
and make DDR chipsets.
(2) Notice that almost ALL motherboards include RAID as default.
This is going to become a trend, since it will cost almost next
to nothing soon and will boost up the sales of Hard disks. Watch
out also for motherboards featuring USB as well as Firewire.
(3) I did not know that Duron boards would not be compatible with
Athlon.. How can it be???
(4) I wonder what will be the price/performance delta of pentium
4 ssystems running on a Serverworks DDR ssytem and another running
a i850 system.

Corel will restructure itself
Corel of Canada has announced that it will cut its workforce by 139,
closing compounds in Ireland. THis is part of a plan to cut expenditures
by Rs 1 Bln. It is another bad, bad blow for Corel after losing CEO,
Michael Cowpland, losing its merger acquistion of Borland/Imprise
and losing almost all its market share. Corel however has acquited
the whole range of Meta Creation software which include Bryce, Poser,
Fractal Painter etc. I really fear that Corel's Era is quickly coming
to an end and will soon rejoin the ranks of disappearing software
companies as Microsoft, Adobe and Cygnus-Redhat are eating away Corel's
Lunch. |

With Prices hovering above Rs 100,000, the 3 new Inkjets are no cheap
solutions. However they really offer tremendous value for money.
- HP DeskJet 990Cse/Cxi Professional Series printer, the
- HP PhotoSmart 1218/xi printer
- HP PhotoSmart 1215 printer.
They all offer 2400x1200 dpi printing and page print speed higher
than 12 ppm in color and substantially more in black. |

has been charged
Rs 3.1 Bln. This is the sum of money a federal judge has summoned
Mp3.com to pay to Universal Studios after having been accused of illegal
selling of CDs. Mp3.com has been fined nearly Rs 650,000 for each
CD sold. |

Some
news about X-Box
Microsoft restated that it would stick to the 733 mhz Intel CPU despite
the sad fact that this CPU would roughly be the subentry level by
Dec 2001, Date of Arrival for the X-Box. Instead, MS stressed on the
importance of the Video Section (so NVIDIA better deliver the goods).
A spokesman said that the X-box would be much more superior to the
then existing games console. FYI, X-box is Microsoft first Foray in
the Lucrative Games sector. MS's X-box will go head to head with Sony's
PS2, Nintendo's Dolphin and Sega Saturn (AFAIR) |
