Leal Communication and Informatics get ISO9002 certification.
LCI, reseller of IPC, PCTech PC's has been ISO certified last week. They came in as from 1977. A VERy good year indeed ;) - Their previous name was Computer House. They now have a workforce of 30, 500 Companies as customers and have 7000 computers sold in the market. They also sell Printers: Kyocera, AMD Dot Matrix Printers, Viewsonic Screens, Accton Networking devices, Mustek Scanners and Quantum Hard disks. LCI has also decided to invest in the regional market. Keep it up and hope that you succeed in your quest.

Cash and Carry brings Artillerie Lourde
Cash and Carry is literally exploding everything. They have put ads in Le Mauricien and L'express of Tuesday 5 September. Do you know how much both ads cost them? Approximately Rs 17,000 each inc VAT !!! They are selling HP Brios, Celeron 566, Pentium (III???) 600, Pentium III 733, 800 and 866 Mhz also bundled with tons of goodies like Lexmark Printers and Riva TNT video cards and Subwoofers as well. Expect them to sell A lot of these....

Still another politician's website
Mr Abu Kasenally gets his home page at www.kasenally.net . The life of this PTR-PMXD is dissecated. His life, personal and professional as a medical practitioner, his views about the economy, about his beloved counry and other social themes are exposed. The two other candidates siding with him are also "Webized".

Intel Foster Info
What is Intel Foster? Foster is the Server version of the Pentium 4. Foster is the Nickname for it just like Willamette was the nickname used for Intel's Current Pentium 4. Foster will be released in about 6 to 8 months' time and will go head to head with AMD Mustang and Intel's own Xeon & forthcoming Itanium Processors. Foster is planned to have ~ 620 pins which means that it should have a brand new motherboard and is not backward compatible. A small thing puzzles me here. OK. It seems to be more than obvious that Intel is going forward with a Speed-comes-first philosophy with the P4 as we've seen yesterday from the benchmarks. Now, in the corporate sector, where performance comes BEFORE speed, how will they view it.

Elections and Internet
Interesting article in L'express concerning how Internet has gradually made its way and gained importance in the forthcoming elections. Myeldo and Telecom plus are both planning to attract maximum viewers by providing them with ample information and in the case of MyEldo with the opportunity ot win a BooKPC which ressembles our Slim PC. MyEldo expects 3000 people at least to visit their sites. The total number of persons involved in the coverage of the elections is approximately equal to 60.

Thumbs up
..... To DH for his magnificent article named " Avancer Librement". In a fluid and well versed language, D.H dissecates the press communique of MTA and very rightly points out to the cons (no pros...) of such a communique. He then lists the numerous weak spots of the IT industry in Mauritius. I simply love the wealth of information in his/her article. We find out that only 125 entreprises have opted for illimited internet access. Do you know how much an ADSL (asymetric digital subscriber line - both voice and internet, 2 Mb/s line ) costs in France??? 600 FF for UNLIMITED access including phone line calls.... Competition is good, no competition is bad.

Va Chercher, bon toutou
Lycos group which has such flamboyant website such as webmonkey, hotbot, suck and so much others has posted losses of nearly Rs 2.4 Bln for this fiscal year. So how can they lose so much money... Simply on marketing. So much for them anyway....

Some video hardware news
- The new Kyro based video Card released from Innovisionand Videologic is built using a promising new technology which is called Tiling. In a nutshell, the chipset intelligently renders a scene, omitting the ones which are not necessary and therefore eliminating useless work and releasing much needed bandwidth.

- Matrox releases G450 Chipset - quite a deception by any means. It is slow, it is cumbersome, it HAS twin view but it does not provide the best 2D/3D combination around. Hope that it will be cheaper than the G400 Max.. BTW, it still features a 64-bit data path ;(

- Voodoo 5 6000 coming out soon - features 128 Mb RAM, 50w Power supply, 4 VSA chips working together and FSAA technology as well as being nearly 30 cm long.

Athlon forthcoming CPU
What a weird name - Palomino - somewhat italian ain't it? It will feature 0.13 micron technology (Wait a minute, are AMD manufacturing plants at 0.13 already?) It will also harbour the Mustang enhanced core as well as a maximum 1024 Kb L2 Cache ondie and a 333 Mhz BUS. It is also rumoured that it will be called Athlon 2 and that it will feature both SSE and 3D Now technology. OK, let see, it is supposed to come in life when? Err no news about it?

Any one wants a supercomputer?
For around Rs 1M, you can get a Supercomputer from Cray Corporation (Mario YMP-C90). Although it is selling (was??) as a second hand machine, it is still in perfectly working conditions. Technically speaking, it has 16 processors each capable of 1 Giga flop of power as well as 8 Gigabytes of Memory (Main + Solid State memory) as well as 130 Gb of hard disks. You will have to pay for the package and posting as well for the insurance....
