1. Palmpilots in Mauritius
After selling IBM's Stinkpad Thinkpads, Vstreet is selling Palm Vx and Palm VIIx for Rs 14,900 and Rs 16,500 respectively. They ONLY sell those. Mind you that V-store is NO err Internet Store like dear myeldo. Ahhh... If only I had their marketing power. Let me remind you that we sell the Vx for Rs 12,823+vat ;). See our pricelist.

2. Soleil Sites
MSM sites have been registered - www.aneerood.com and www.msmsun.com. Even politicians have their websites now :>. BTW, where is www.tonpolo.com..... Ptr already has its own website, look in servihoo's directory. I haven't visited their website yet but the fact that they have registered TLD is a good hint of their quality.

3. Cash and Carry : the return....
Nothing really thrilling. Only that they now offer a 866 Mhz computer and a Lexmark Z11 printer for Rs 29,990. Upgrade to 20.4 Gb Hard disk and you reach Rs 30,490. Is it good value for money? Definitely yes, Is it good money spent? Definitely no... Too much power for your penny. You can easily shave Rs 5,000 from the price and get a less powerful machine. Again remember what you will do with your PC first. For the article comparing C&C with other machines, please click here.

4. Ptr promises to create 40,000 jobs in Net Economy.
Mind you, Its only a promise and it is done "en pleine campagne electorale.. ". Better to say that it has no chance to get there. How are they going to do it? Within how many years? Are THEY going to do it or is the PRIVATE sector going to do it? What do they understand by NET economy? Call Centers :< Mauritius stands no chance of being a DotCom tiger. BTW, let me tell you that that
PTR's IT programme :
1. Make Mauritius a Software Development centre.
2. Setup a Specialised school for Software Development
3. Computers in all schools
4. Net Kiosks.

MSM's IT Programme:
1. Internet in schools.
(Are they dumb of what? Internet is already available in schools for free)

5. Enigma Computers reappears
Don't know if it is the same www.enigmatrade.com but this company was selling a P3-733 for Rs 23,900 excluding VAT. Quantum Hard disks, 64 Mb RAM, 15" Monitor, 52x CD-ROM, the usual Stuff... Quite expensive by any means.

6. Intel makes the news in ... NEWSWEEK.
The world's most read magazine has 3 pages on Intel and its investments in the State of Costa Rica. Under the title of "Silicon Republic", there is a very detailed and critical description of how Intel changed the fate of that little country. Intel exports account for 37% of the country GDP. Just imagine this... Costa Rica won over countries like Singapore, Mexico and taiwan. Reasons given for this are friendly and stable government, literate work force, bulk rate on electricity, eight years without taxes, 4 additional years without discount... Yo!!! This is an example Mauritius could follow if we are to become a major exporter of Chips (not the one from KFCs)....

7. Tech groups bash anti-Napster ruling
Now That is what I call interesting! Napster has been asked to close its business, which has already been done. However, voices raised from Industry leaders (Yahoo, AOL, Real Networks, Sony Electronics) and argued that the filing brief from Judge Patel will diminish consumer rights and inhibit technological innovations. Moreover, this would open a tidal wave of injunctions aiming new media companies. As you may have noticed, many companies like AOL and Sony Electronics have bananas on both sides, AOL with Time Warner and Sony Electronics with Sony Music. This illustrates the actual, ambiguous state of the industry.

8. CA Restructures
Not a NEW news but worth mentioning. Computer Associates, the third largest Software Company behind Microsoft (where to you want to go) and Oracle (the dot-com company), has has lost his Founder, CEO and enigmatic key man, Charles Wang. Wang has been replaced by Sanjay Kumar. Cool, I did not know that iCan was a TRADEMARK of Computer Associates. Are Computer Point aware of it? Computer Associates, one of the Older software company (26 years of age), is a major player in the Mainframe Sector and has got some interesting Jewels in its Crown. The new CEO pledges to make Internet the central core business of the Company. Computer Associates had a Business Suite which was very long ago, a competitor to Lotus Symphony and Microsoft Office.. CA runs Rs 150 Billions a year.

9. Intel recalls all its 1.13 Ghz Processors.
By the way, did you know how many 1.13 Ghz processors were sold by Dell since it has been introduced since 1 month ago??? Nadda, Zero. It seems that all 1.13 Ghz Intel Processors were in fact 850 Mhz Core which were legally overclocked to 1.13 Ghz. Let me remind you, that this move was a desperate one by Intel to regain the speed crown it lost to AMD in the month of May (AFAIR). AMD launched a 1.1 Ghz some weeks ago now and has again retake the lead in the speed race. Intel is bound to be speed king in month to Come with its Pentium 4 Series but the latest benchmarks on this CPU shows that Clock-For-Clock, the Athlon beats it. Maybe, Intel is trying to imitate Cyrix. Speed first, Performance then... What a bad imitation from the #1 CPU maker

10. US losing grip on IT industry
The rest of the world is catching on the USA in the IT sector. More people surf internet OUTSIDE US rather than inside. Moreover, Sweden is #1 in terms of GDP spent on IT, Scandinavian countries come in the first spots in term of IT expenditure per Capita. Worldwide IT expenditure is a little less than US$1 Trillion (0.976 to be more precise)

11. First Gigahertz PC in Mauritius
It was only a Joke.... Only to tell you that you can pick up parts from my pricelist and assemble a Ghz PC
1. AMD 1 Ghz Slot A CPU + Fan
2. PC Chips Motherboard
3. 128 Mb RAM PC-133
4. Seagate 20.4 Gb Hard Disk

8. 17" Monitor
9. Full Duplex Sound Card onboard

For only Rs 40,000 + VAT (Approximately....) Somewhat expensive.. But you HAVE power for the penny...
